Prevent Pollution: Better, Cheaper Snow Removal Strategies
Did you know? One 50 lb. bag of salt pollutes 10,000 gallons of water!
De-icers used in winter maintenance are a major source of water pollution in the Twin Cities, but prevention can help keep our shared water resources clean.
Attend the training to:
• Learn how to save money and reduce pollution using effective snow and ice removal strategies around properties you maintain.
• Expand your skills and marketing potential. Become state certified in Level 1- Snow and Ice Control Best Practices by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).
• Network with other maintenance professionals to gain tips.
Who should attend? Private contractors and service providers, public works staff, property managers, distributors, snowplow drivers, crew leaders, supervisors, permanent and seasonal employees and those who supervise or hire maintenance staff.
Training topics include: Application rates, storing materials, how to calibrate equipment, weather conditions, de-icing and anti-icing, environmental effects, and new maintenance methods.
Trainers and class: Training is provided by Fortin Consulting, a company with 19 years of experience training maintenance professionals and protecting the state’s natural resources. Accompanying Fortin staff are maintenance professionals who can speak directly to their own use of best management practices. Trainers respond to questions and provide attendees with a technical manual to keep. Participants work together in a friendly and low-key environment to complete exercises to help grasp key concepts.
Participants seeking MPCA certification take a short test at the end of the training. Those who pass the test can have their names advertised on a list of certified contractors hosted on the MWMO website.
Lunch will be provided.
Location: MWMO Building at 2522 Marshall St NE, Minneapolis, MN 55418
This training is paid for by the Clean Water Act, Section 319 Nonpoint Source Management Fund and the MWMO.
