WHY DISPOSE OF HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE?
Household hazardous waste should NOT be disposed of in the trash. Household hazardous waste disposed of in the trash poses a serious threat of injury to trash collection and landfill operators. This kind of waste also creates environmental problems when disposed of improperly. For these reasons, disposal of household hazardous waste is regulated and improper disposal is illegal. WHERE DO I DROP OFF MY HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE?
Residents of Benton, Stearns and Sherburne counties can drop off household hazardous waste for FREE at the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility located at 3601 5th Street South, Waite Park.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE WASTE I DROP OFF?
Certain materials can be cleaned and reused in a similar product, such as cleaning used solvents to make them usable again, alternatively, some hazardous waste can be blended and used as a fuel or an ingredient of a fuel, and, some hazardous wastes can be treated and then used as an ingredient in a product, such as fertilizer.
