Report an Illicit Discharge

An illicit discharge is any connection or discharge which allows non-stormwater to enter into the storm drain system. Local staff relies on public assistance to find illicit discharges to the storm drain system.

The following examples should not be dumped into the street or storm drain system.

• Yard or plant waste
• Concrete washout
• Oil, grease, or paint
• Pet waste
• Trash
• Fertilizers and pesticides
• Household cleaners
• Water from washing vehicles or equipment
• Sanitary sewer pipes that are connected to the storm drain system

Local staff relies on public assistance to find illicit discharges to the storm drain system.

To report a substance other than stormwater entering the stormwater system, please contact directly (by email or phone) your specific city or the entity that manages your local storm sewer system. Some cities have online report forms you can fill out.

Please include the following information when reporting illicit discharges:

• A brief description of the issue
• The location of the discharge or connection
• Date observed
• Contact information (for follow-up purposes only, all reports will remain anonymous)
