Report Illicit Discharge You See Entering Storm Drains

Storm drains and watersheds connect to area lakes, ponds and rivers, so it’s important that everyone does their part to help keep them free of unwanted pollutants, or illicit discharges. An illicit discharge is anything that is not just stormwater draining into a storm drain or ditch system.
Some examples of illicit discharges include raked leaves and grass clippings, concrete washout, oils, grease, paint, pet waste, trash, fertilizers and pesticides, household cleaners, and water from washing vehicles or equipment. Sanitary sewer pipes that are connected to the storm drain or ditch system are also considered an illicit discharge.
Our city, township, and facility staff rely on the public to find and report illicit discharges to the storm drain and ditch systems for investigation. When reporting, please include a brief description of the issues, the location of the discharge or connection, the date observed, and your contact information. Your report will remain anonymous, the contact information is for follow-up purposes only. Please check your city’s, township’s or facility’s website for information specific to reporting illicit discharges in your area.
