Why You Should Keep Grass Clippings Out of the Street
As the growing season gets into full swing, your lawn is going to grow quickly. It is important to practice sustainable lawn care for both the health of the grass and the quality of our water sources.
Do not mow your grass clippings into the street. They can clog storm drains and cause localized flooding.
Grass clippings from lawns that are treated with pesticides and herbicides are more harmful as the alkylphenols in those chemicals get carried through stormwater to pollute the lakes and rivers we use as drinking water sources.
It’s best to leave clippings on your lawn as mulch to bring essential nutrients back to your lawn. Sweep-up grass clippings that get onto the street.
